Are you planning an upcoming vacation with your friends or family? How exciting! Just remember, it’s important to make sure you are well equipped to take good care of your teeth and braces when you are away from home.
Travelling to a new place can be exciting – but we don’t want you to forget about a good orthodontic care routine. At Windermere Orthodontics, we suggest that you follow these simple tips to take care of your braces while on vacation.
Schedule an Orthodontic Checkup
Before you go out of town or out of the country, you should visit your orthodontist so he or she can make the necessary adjustments especially if you’ll be away for a long time.
Pack Your Orthodontic Travel Kit
Make sure to bring your toothbrush, floss, mouthwash, interdental cleaners, orthodontic wax, a small mirror and a water bottle for rinsing. Put them together in a small bag and label them as your ‘Orthodontic Travel Kit’ to make your things organized.
Maintain Oral Hygiene
Following the proper techniques for brushing and flossing or using interdental cleaners for your braces are necessary to ensure that you keep optimum oral health while on vacation.
Be Careful About What You Eat
Vacation is fun not only because of the scenic places and fun activities but also because of the delicious new foods too. However, you must not forget that there are food and drinks that you should avoid to keep your braces safe and your teeth healthy. Some of the food and beverages that you should avoid include sodas, hard cookies, nuts, chewy and sticky candy, raw fruit and vegetables that aren’t cut into pieces and corn on the cob. Anything that could get stuck or damage your braces, you should avoid.
Although you may be ready to take a break and go on vacation… your orthodontic care is still at work! Keep in mind these tips and you’ll still be on the right track!
From our orthodontic team, we hope you enjoy your vacation! If you have any questions regarding vacation tips for your braces, you can visit our orthodontic office in Suwanee, Brookhaven or Cumming.
