Orthodontic Care During COVID-19: Is It Safe to Visit My Suwanee Orthodontist's Office

Since COVID-19, you may be wondering if an Orthodontist’s office is safe to visit and what preventative measures are in place to protect your health. Health and safety is, and always has been, a top priority at Windermere Orthodontics. We have optimized all precautions to reduce the risk of disease transmission. Your overall appointment process is going to look a bit different, but these new protocols are in place to ensure a safe environment for our patients and team members.

Health and Safety Measures To Note

While working in patients’ mouths every day, orthodontists are no strangers to preventing the spread of germs. There are certain universal precautions that all orthodontists already have in place, like the use of face masks, gloves and glasses. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, these measures have been expanded and intensified. The American Association of Orthodontists published an article about the safety of  orthodontic offices and stated: “from treatment and waiting room disinfection to the strict use of personal protective equipment (PPE), the safety of patients and staff members continues to be of utmost importance.” New regulations also include diligent disinfecting initiatives for frequently touched surfaces such as chairs, desks, door handles and more. Our offices have completely removed other commonly touched items such as magazines, games, and refreshments stations. For a full list of changes, please click here.

The New Appointment Process

As a result of new health and safety protocols, your appointment process is going to involve a few extra steps. For example, all patients, staff and any other person who enters the office will need to pass a COVID-19 screening. This screening is made up of a series of questions to determine any flu-like symptoms. If the screening is not passed, the person will not be allowed entry to the office. Social distancing protocols are also being implemented in orthodontic offices. In an effort to enforce social distancing rules, we ask you to wait in your car for your appointment instead of a populated waiting room. You also may be asked to use a hydrogen peroxide rinse when in the treatment chair to lower the number of germs and viruses in your mouth. Everything is in place with your health and safety in mind!
